LOCK and UNLOCK Blogger Widgets

lock-unlock-widgetsBy default almost widgets in blogger blogs are editable. By Clicking the edit button, you can either perform edit, remove or cancel functions. You may have observed that some widgets can not be removed from page elements for example the Header widget which lets you add a background image to your header or add your site logo. All those widgets which can not be removed are LOCKED and we learn today how to UNLOCK those widgets. We will also learn how to LOCK any widget we want so that it could only be edited but not removed.

How To LOCK/UNLOCK a Widget in Blogger?

  1. Go To Blogger > Design
  2. You will see many widgets in your page element section. Get the ID of the widget you want to remove. You can get the widgetID by placing your mouse cursor at the Edit link of that specific widget. You will see a link appearing near the status bar of your Mozilla/Chrome browser like this,
WIDGET ID
    3. Simply note down the widgetID which in my case is HTML12. You widget ID is one that appears between widgetid= and &action
The Widget that you want to lock looks like this in UNLOCK mode,
UNLOCK MODE:
BLOGGER WIDGET

unlOCK BLOGGER WIDGET
You can clearly see that there are three buttons which are REMOVE, CANCEL and SAVE
Now we want to delete the REMOVE button so that the widget could only be edited but not removed.
    4. Now go to Blogger > Design > Edit HTML
    5. Backup your template
   6. Search for your widget ID. (In my case I will search for HTML12
   7. You will find a code similar to this,
<b:widget id='HTML12' locked='false' title='Subscribe Now!' type='HTML'/>
   8. Now to LOCK the widget simply let locked to true
   9. Save your template and Your Widget is now LOCKED.
Go to Page Elements section and you will see that your widget has no REMOVE button now.
LOCKED MODE:
LOCKED BLOGGER
LOCKED-widget
To UNLOCK the widget back, simply repeat the same process and change locked to false
That's all! Have fun :>

Well the process is as simply as it can be. Simply follow these steps carefully,
  1. Go To Blogger > Layout > Edit HTML
  2. Back-up your template
All Navigation Menus below uses two pieces of codes. One is The CSS code which is responsible for the look and feel of the menus and the second is the HTML code which is responsible for positioning the menus. So lets know where to add each code!
    3. Paste the CSS code for your selected Menu just above </b:skin>
    4. For the HTML code there can be two positions either your right sidebar or left sidebar. Depends how many columns you have.
  • If you have a right sidebar then paste the HTML code just below
  or this

  • If you have a left sidebar then paste the HTML code just below

Note:- Since most templates use different coding therefore if you could not find the above codes then don’t worry simply share your blog URL in the comment box and I will view your template coding and will tell you instantly which code to search for!
    5. Finally save your template and see a beautiful Navigation Menu hanging on your sidebar :D

Editing The Links In The Navigation Menu

To change the Tab Menu Links and Titles, simply edit this bolded part of the HTML code,

Link 1

Link 3

Link 4

Link5

Create Facebook and Twitter Custom Follower Counters

Follower-Counter I was thinking as why some services like Facebook, Digg, orkut, stumbleupon has no follower, fan or friends counter. While I was customizing my template I needed a follower counter for Facebook but unfortunately I could not find any. So I decided that why not create my own custom follower counter. This idea enabled me to create a follower counter for any service you like!
This is how our Custom follower counter for Facebook looks like,
227 Followers
or a blinking one for browsers other then IE,
227+ Fans

To add a counter you just need to do the following,
  1. Go To Blogger > Layout
  2. Choose Add a Gadget or Add a Page element
  3. Choose HTML/JavaScript
  4. Finally paste the code below inside the HTML/JavaScript widget,

227<blink>+</blink> Followers

Customization

The bolded text in the code above are described below,
background-color: This defines the background colour of the counter. To change the hexadecimal color value to something different use our colour chart.
background-color: This defines the background colour of the number count i.e 227 You can change its colour using the same color chart.
color: This defines the color of the text i.e 227 and Followers
<blink>+</blink>: The code in blue is responsible for blink the plus sign. You can write anything between <blink> and </blink> For instance symbols like k (kilo), .. etc If you don’t want this blinking effect simply delete <blink>+</blink> from the main code above.
227 and Followers: Replace these with your own follower count and count name.

Some Example Counters For Feed Readers and Twitter

FEED COUNTER
227 Readers

227 Readers
TWITTER COUNTER
227Tweeters

227Tweeters

The Number Count Is Manual!

Since this widget is based fully on CSS and it uses no programming code so you will need to update your follower count yourself each time you receive a new Facebook follower, Feed Reader or Twitter follower etc. I hope that is not difficult to do so :)
I am sure you will enjoy reading these too,
